PIXNIT Productions

The name PIXNIT is based on the Latin word pinxit, often included in the signature of paintings from the 1800’s, meaning she/he painted this work. It is an identity constructed to both conceal the original artist and apply to any person who engages in the painting process using a “Spore”. By combining the history of the decorative arts, architectural ornament, ironwork and wallpaper, PIXNIT hand-draws and cuts stencils she calls “Spores”. Reproductive mechanisms adapted for dispersal in unfavorable conditions. Drawn with a knife, a template is created that is used repeatedly by the artist and others to create mass-produced public paintings.
